The XGRIDS Lixel L3 is XGRIDS' new flagship handheld spatial scanner, bringing high-accuracy LiDAR, integrated RTK, true-colour imaging and photoreal 3D reconstruction into one mobile capture system. For AEC teams, survey and reality-capture professionals, the significance is not one specification in isolation. It is the ability to collect measurement-grade spatial data and visually rich 3D content in the same walk.

Available to order in Australia through Kybos, the L3 is designed for workflows where accuracy, speed and visual context all matter.

A new flagship for high-accuracy mobile capture

XGRIDS positions the Lixel L3 around a verified 5 mm post-processed relative accuracy figure. The published specification is based on testing in a designated 500 m² environment, so it should be understood as a defined performance figure rather than a blanket guarantee for every site condition.

Alongside that relative accuracy figure, XGRIDS lists 2 cm post-processed absolute accuracy and 0.005° levelling with RTK fusion. For field teams, that combination is intended to make the scanner useful not only for fast visual capture, but for workflows that feed CAD, BIM, coordination and existing-condition documentation.

Integrated RTK, screen and processing

One of the strongest changes in the L3 is integration. RTK is built into the unit rather than treated as a separate field accessory, while the 4.3-inch display provides on-device model preview and measurement. The scanner also carries 1 TB of internal storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB 3.1 Gen 2 connectivity.

That matters on site because fewer separate components generally means a cleaner capture workflow. The operator can collect, check and review the scan from the device rather than building a field setup around multiple disconnected pieces of hardware.

One scan, multiple deliverables

The L3 is built around a capture-once workflow. A single walk can support several different outputs rather than forcing teams to choose between measured geometry and photoreal visualisation at the time of capture.

  • Point clouds for measurement, coordination and downstream CAD/BIM workflows, including common formats such as LAS, RCP, E57 and PLY.

  • True-colour imagery for visual documentation and site context.

  • Mesh output for geometric 3D representation.

  • 3D Gaussian Splatting output for highly realistic spatial visualisation.

  • Additional 3D formats for broader digital-content and spatial workflows.

For architects, builders and consultants, that is particularly useful when the same capture needs to serve more than one purpose: a point cloud for design, a visual record for remote review, and a photoreal 3D scene for communicating the space to people who do not work directly with point clouds.

True-colour capture and photorealism

The imaging system combines one forward camera with two panoramic cameras. XGRIDS specifies 4K HDR capture and a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, with the panoramic camera system extending the visual coverage around the scanner.

The practical value is not simply a prettier point cloud. Better colour and image coverage help a captured site remain understandable after the field visit is over. Materials, finishes, signage, services and contextual details are easier to recognise when the visual layer is closely tied to the measured geometry.

Designed for complex and GNSS-limited environments

Mobile SLAM systems are often used in exactly the places where satellite positioning is inconsistent or unavailable: interiors, tunnels, dense urban sites, plant rooms and complex structures. XGRIDS highlights stable mapping in degraded environments as one of the L3's core capabilities.

The supplied L3 demonstrations show both real-time loop-closure mapping around a large building and capture through a tunnel environment, illustrating the type of scenes the platform is intended to handle.

Where the Lixel L3 fits in AEC

For Kybos' construction and design clients, the L3 is most interesting where fast mobile capture needs to feed a more technical workflow. Typical applications include:

  • Existing-condition scanning for renovation and architectural design.

  • Point-cloud capture for Scan-to-BIM and Scan-to-CAD workflows.

  • Construction documentation where geometry and visual context both matter.

  • Infrastructure, industrial and large-complex-site capture.

  • Heritage documentation where measured geometry and photoreal presentation are both valuable.

  • Spatial-content creation using 3D Gaussian Splatting and mesh outputs.

Key Lixel L3 specifications

  • 5 mm post-processed relative accuracy in XGRIDS' designated 500 m² test environment.

  • 2 cm post-processed absolute accuracy (RMSE).

  • 0.005° levelling with RTK fusion.

  • LiDAR scanning range of approximately 0.7–120 m.

  • 16- or 32-channel laser configuration depending on model.

  • Point-cloud rate up to 320,000 / 640,000 points per second.

  • Three-camera imaging system with 4K HDR capture.

  • Approximately 2.5 kg including battery.

  • Up to 100 minutes total operating time.

  • 1 TB internal storage and IP54 ingress protection.

Lixel L3 or Lixel L2 Pro?

The L3 does not make the Lixel L2 Pro irrelevant. They suit different priorities. The L3 is the stronger choice when the workflow puts a premium on accuracy, integrated RTK and high-quality colour capture. The L2 Pro remains relevant where longer-range capture and mounting flexibility are more important.

The right choice depends on the work you actually need to deliver, not simply which scanner is newer. Kybos can help compare the platforms against your intended capture environment, deliverables and processing workflow.

Available in Australia through Kybos

Kybos provides the XGRIDS Lixel L3 to the Australian market, with pricing available on request. If you are considering the L3 for architecture, construction, surveying, reality capture or spatial-content production, we can help work through the hardware, software and output requirements before you buy.

The goal is to match the scanner to the workflow, whether that means E57/RCP delivery, Scan-to-BIM, mesh production, 3DGS, or a combination of technical and visual outputs.
